Fighter's History is a series of fighting games produced by Data East during the 1990s. The series is notable for its unique 'weak point system,' where repeatedly striking an opponent's specific article of clothing can temporarily stun them. The original game was released for arcades in 1993 and ported to the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1994, followed by two sequels: Karnov's Revenge (1994) and Fighter's History: Mizoguchi Kiki Ippatsu!! (1995).

Lore & Background
The original Fighter's History was released as an arcade game in March 1993, using a six-button control configuration similar to Street Fighter II, with three punch and three kick buttons. It featured nine playable characters and two non-playable bosses, including Karnov, the protagonist of a previous Data East action game. The weak point system allowed players to stun opponents by repeatedly hitting a specific article of clothing, and in this installment, hitting the weak point also caused greater subsequent damage. The game was made available through Nintendo Switch Online in 2022.
Reader's Guide
Fighter's History holds significance as Data East's attempt to compete in the fighting game market of the 1990s, directly challenging Capcom's Street Fighter II with its similar control scheme and unique weak point mechanic. The series introduced a roster of diverse characters, including a detective, a high school delinquent, a Chinese opera actress, and a Russian boss. The weak point system added a strategic layer, requiring players to learn each character's vulnerable clothing item. The sequels expanded the series: Karnov's Revenge moved to SNK's Neo Geo hardware, reducing the control configuration to four buttons and introducing 'one-two attacks' for easier combos, while adding two new characters and making previous bosses playable. Fighter's History: Mizoguchi Kiki Ippatsu!!, a Super Famicom exclusive, introduced new game modes and featured Chelnov as the final boss. The series' legacy includes appearances of its characters in other games, such as SNK's KOF: Maximum Impact Regulation A and a remake of Night Slashers. Despite not achieving the lasting fame of its competitors, Fighter's History remains a notable example of 1990s fighting game design and Data East's creative output.
